If you have only used a traditional book before, the exchange format takes a few sessions to settle into. The difference is not complicated, but it does change how a match feels.
On a traditional book you take the price offered and wait for settlement. On an exchange you are matched against other users, which means you can be on either side of a market — backing an outcome to happen, or laying it to not happen — and you can adjust that position while the match is still running.
